Abstract:
The calorimeter detectors being designed for ILC have extremely high readout granularity to maximally profit from the Particle Flow approach to event reconstruction. Together with the requirement to keep un-instrumented detector regions to a minimum, this poses significant engineering challenges to detector design. The speakers will discuss the large-scale carbon fibre composite structures envisaged for the mechanical support of the ECAL, and the highly integrated readout electronics and DAQ systems needed to read out its 10^8 measurement channels.
