Abstract:
Since its foundation, the RD51 collaboration has provided important stimulus for the development of Micropattern Gaseous Detectors. MPGDs are now commonly used in many experiments including applications in LHC upgrades.
Short review of the current generic R&D on Micropattern Gaseous Detectors conducted by CERN GDD group in the context of the RD51 Collaboration will be presented. Particular emphasis will be put on the recent achievements in precise timing (time resolution below 25 ps) and possible applications of optically readout GEM in basic research and medicine.
